Pre-Grade R starts at approximately three years. Depending on the number of learners in this group, they are placed in more than one class, usually a 3-4 year old and a 4-5 year old class. As their confidence grows and children demonstrate skills in building relationships, activities in the Pre- Grade R classes are more structured with emphasis on holistic development.
The programme we follow is based on well researched early childhood educational development theory and practice. By planning around a theme, we ensure that learners have the opportunity to progress in all areas of learning through purposeful activities that make sense to them. Knowledge is enhanced through purposeful play and children are introduced to a wide variety of learning opportunities such as perceptual activities, cognitive activities (speaking, listening, pre-reading, pre-writing, maths) and creative activities ( art, music, movement, fantasy play, dancing). The pre-grade R programme also provides opportunity for social and emotional development. As learners in this class develop positive feelings about themselves and their abilities, they become curious and motivated to learn. They develop increased levels of concentration and self-confidence, and develop increased awareness in making and expressing choices and plans while taking great pleasure in personal achievement.
Our trained educators assess pupils on a daily base and progress reports are shared with parents quarterly.
